Sacred Tribe Dance Studios offer classes in Tribal Style belly Dance and Tribal Fusion

Tribal belly Dance (ATS) takes traditional belly dance and incorporates elements from Flamenco, North African and Indian dance. It involves learning a set vocabulary of movements with cues and transitions, where the dancers in the ‘tribe’ will eventually be able to dance as one. Tribal style is a group improvisational dance; therefore connection with sister dancers is very important. The balance of strength and sensuality of this dance form draws heavily from the fiery influence of Flamenco along with the feminine style of traditonal belly dance.The community aspect of this dance creates a fun friendly atmosphere. We aim to emphasize the sacredtribalphilosophy which is based on harmonious cooperation with in a group, where everyone is treated equally and acknowledeged through mutual support and acceptance. The formats taught at STDS include Fatchancebellydance, Sacred Tribe Dance Studios and Gypsy Caravan.

Tribal Fusion developed as an "off shoot" from American tribal style belly dance (ATS). Tribal fusion dancers tend to embrace a blend of traditional and contemporary movements and aesthetics, combining world influences and stylistic influence from ATS.

 

TRIBAL STYLE (ATS)
TRIBAL FUSION ( TF)

Tribal style is a fusion of Traditional Belly dance, Flamenco, Indian and North African dance

TF is based on tribal belly dance styling with a variety of other influences.

Tribal has a specific criteria for each dance movement. We aim for everybody to interpret each move in a specific way
A dancers individual style is encouraged (can play with own interpretaion of technique)
Tribal style is danced and performed as a "tribe" of dancers- moving as one. It is a group improvisational dance, where connection with sister dancers is very important
TF can be performed solo and can be choreographed or improvised. In TF there is more space for self expression.
There is a set dance vocabulary of moves with cues and transitions
There is no set dance vocabulary
Tribal Costuming usually inculdes the choli, full flamenco style skirt, pantaloons with varying hip belts and adornments (Tribal jewellery)
TF costuming has similar elements to Tribal style costuming but does come down to individual taste
Music usually has a steady, predictable beat for fast and arythmic hypnotic music for slow
Music has no specific criteria (individual taste)
