How does Tribal Belly Dance differ from other Belly dance styles?

Tribal Belly dance is a contemporary dance form originating from San Fransisco. Although it was developed quite recently it presents as an authentic culturally rich dance from. Tribal style takes traditional belly dance and incorporates elements from Flamenco, North African and Indian dance. Tribal belly dance is performed as a “tribe” of dancers where emphasis is on the group rather than a solo dancer. It evokes excitement and inspiration to onlookers who are able to observe and feel the community spirit that tribal style brings. The synchronised movement and awe inspiring costuming often transports onlookers to far away places.Tribal dancers usually always use finger cymbals (zills) to accompany their dance which adds to the dynamic vibrant atmosphere a tribe creates. Performance pieces range from lively, colourful and dynamic to hypnotic, mysterious and exotic.
In Tribal belly dance you will not see sequins or chiffon but rather antique textiles, traditional tribal jewellery from around the world and lush flamenco style skirts. The costuming draws influence from the Middle East, Spain, and India.

See why tribal belly dance is fast becoming a worldwide phenomenon!
